Sophie and Mason’s Book Tower wedding was classically elegant in every way. A neutral palette was anything but boring. I was honored to be their invitations and day-of-wedding stationery designer. Let’s relive the day, designed and planned to perfection by Simply Brilliant Events, thanks to gorgeous images captured by Jennifer Boris Photography.
Sophie and Mason were planning a classically elegant, neutral wedding. Their florals were all white with gold chairs as an accent. They knew they wanted to bring in some small pops of black as accents during their Book Tower wedding reception, so we used that as a launch point for the color palette of their invitations: white, black, gold, and dove grey.
Here, you can see the digital mockup I sent to the couple as part of their stationery design process. You can see each element included, at scale and in reference to the other elements.
This is part of every proof round! Then, we take what was on screen and it translates to real life.
Sophie and Mason’s invitations were luxe and set the tone for their black and white Book Tower wedding. Sophie really wanted the drama of a black envelope, but it’s risky these days to do a dark envelope with lighter text through USPS. To minimize the mailing risk, we compromised with a black inner envelope (which was hand calligraphed and complete with a liner and wax seal), tucked inside a light grey outer envelope, which was also addressed in hand calligraphy.
This invitation suite was certainly classic, timeless, and formal — but definitely not boring!
Highlights:
Main card – oversize, double thick, black letterpress, gold foil stamping, gold edge painting
Other cards – all also letterpress printed, some in black, others in a pale dove grey
Holding the elements together – vellum wrap with a thin gold twine
Inner / Outer envelope combination – everything in hand calligraphy, with a liner and wax seal
Sophie gifted the special women in her life with custom candle sets. Guests who had traveled from out of town also received a small candle as part of their hotel welcome bags. I partnered with Applewood Candle Co. to ensure all the gift branding and tags included with the candles coordinated with everything else I had designed. This way, it was one more piece of printed material to highlight their overall event branding!
These two looked absolutely incredible!
Sophie and Mason exchanged a heartfelt first look privately.
This couple had a Catholic mass at The Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit. It’s an incredibly beautiful space! For their ceremony, I designed an unplugged sign, requesting guests remain fully present in the moment, as well as their ceremony programs.
Sophie and Mason’s reception was incredibly beautiful — and they left no stone unturned in terms of details. Such a treat to design for this sweet couple!
Guests were greeted by a cascade of florals on the staircase when they got to the event space. They enjoyed a signature cocktail, complete with Mason’s family crest in an edible topper on the drinks. I loved creating that special detail, along with their laser cut bar signage and card box. I also created a large format welcome sign, which tucked in nicely amongst even more flowers!
Guests found their table number on a custom laser cut acrylic tag, affixed to a personal champagne flute. These were all displayed on an 8-foot tall wall, creating an interactive “wow” moment. I designed and laser cut all the tags, Display Group built and installed the wall, and the Simply Brilliant Events and Book Tower teams poured champagne and placed everything. This was truly a team effort!
At each person’s seat, they were greeted by a place card (which also indicated their meal choice), as well as a gold foil stamped menu. Each table had a laser cut acrylic table number, for the one pop of black as part of the decor, on an otherwise all-white display.
Sophie and Mason opted for cocktail napkins and match boxes for their bars, which were fun touches throughout the evening. I also designed some custom cake “to go” boxes for guests to take home an extra sweet treat. During the reception, the Simply Brilliant Events team repurposed the champagne wall and added the cake boxes so they were ready for guests as they departed. A perfect double use of a statement piece!
Sophie and Mason, thank you for letting me be a small part of your magical day! This Book Tower wedding celebration was incredible, but I hope it’s truly only the beginning of a beautiful life together. Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness.
