Now that spring is (finally) upon us, we all have a special graduate to celebrate this season! Honoring someone’s achievements is always a fun thing, but meaningful graduation gift ideas are sometimes hard to come by. Here are my suggestions, and congratulations to anyone in a cap and gown this year!
Valentine’s Day is just a good excuse to express your love to people you care for. A heartfelt, one-of-a-kind, heirloom gift is the perfect way to demonstrate how much someone means to you. As a calligrapher and watercolor artist, I’ve had the honor to create lots of these gifts for clients. Anniversaries (especially the first – for the paper anniversary gift), birthdays, milestones, and yes, Valentine’s Day – a meaningful gift is always treasured. Happy first anniversary to one of my best friends and her incredible husband! Since I never blogged about their elegant Book Cadillac wedding initially, I figured a post on their anniversary was appropriate. Elana and Andy celebrated their marriage surrounded by lots of family and friends, in a gorgeous Detroit ballroom, decked out in black, gold, pink, and white. It was a joyful day, and I was thrilled to stand by their side as her Maid of Honor – as well as serve on their vendor team to bring their vision to life.
When booking a calligrapher, it’s important to know that the artist’s work will match your style. This is especially important for weddings, where event branding is of the utmost importance. The seven calligraphy styles I offer are all different from one another, covering a wide range of tastes.
Liz and Steve live in Chicago and got married this summer at The Garden Theater in Detroit, Michigan. Their day was full of lush greenery, a twinkling glow of candlelight, and so much love. It was an honor to help them with their modern calligraphy paper goods. (more…)
I love working from a home-based studio, and thought it would be fun to give you a sense of my day-to-day with a little studio tour! I converted the spare bedroom in our home to become my studio. This way, I have a designated place to “go to the office,” and it feels separate from the rest of our house. Full disclosure though – I still check emails from my kitchen counter!
It’s a small room, but it’s full of natural light, since it’s got huge windows on one wall, and another window on the side, too. Throughout the space, I have a ton of elephants, as part of my collection. I’ve been collecting elephant paraphernalia for years, and they’re symbols of good luck, so this was a natural fit for me when I designed my company logo. Having so many of them in this space (from all over the world!) is such a fun, visual reminder of something close to my heart.
Gillian and Daniel had an epic, farmhouse chic affair at Zingerman’s Cornman Farms, located just outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan. The couple resides in New York City but the lovely bride grew up here in metro Detroit. It was always a treat to connect with her when she was back in town for planning trips. Gillian’s mom Wendy first came to me to assist with the envelope addressing for their gorgeous invitations. These stunners were french blue and bronze, letterpress, monogrammed, modern script goodness, created by Joann Nosan of Invitation Station (dear family friends of the bride, which I love). It was an honor to help put the cherry on top for this stationery. Then, for the day of the wedding, it was such a treat to help with the paper goods and mirrored seating chart for this special couple. They had a picture perfect day, full of details that came together seamlessly from all vendors. The result? A seemingly effortless affair – this was one for the books, featured nationally on Brides!
