    Mother’s Day is this weekend, and it will look different than any other year’s celebration. Our usual “plant sale and meal together” combo isn’t happening, and I’m sure your family tradition is also getting adjusted. Leading up to this, I had planned to write a post honoring our moms and outlining ways they can be invaluable during the wedding planning process. However, I realize planning weddings looks vastly different right now, too. With that in mind, this blog will outline how mom can help with wedding planning, even in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Your mom is a powerful lady who loves you a lot – use her strengths as an asset, now more than ever! Chances are good she’ll be honored to be on board to help in any way she can.

    Growing up, my parents never set a time requirement for thank you note writing after a birthday – they left it up to me. I could take as long as I wanted to write my thank you notes, but I couldn’t use the item until the thank you note had been written. The sneaky little rule was *brilliant*, now that I look back on it. Obviously, like any other kid, I wanted to use the fun stuff, so I wrote my thank you notes right away! Fast forward to my thirties, and I’m still someone who sends a handwritten note for just about everything. My take on it is that if someone went out of her way to do something nice for you, a note of gratitude is always appropriate. Writing your wedding thank you notes is commonly viewed as a chore. Being gracious shouldn’t be a pain; remind yourself how thankful you are for your loved ones’ thoughtfulness and generosity! (more…)

    Me, every time we travel and pop into an art gallery: “Oh my gosh I love this! How amazing would this look at home?!” My husband, every time: “Where could we even put it?” Ahem. Buying art is an investment, and it’s something you should do with a thoughtful plan in mind. Aside from how to take good care of it and frame it properly, the biggest question I get asked by my commission clients is how to display art in your house.     This spring, so many special occasions are still happening, but due to COVID-19, we won’t be able to share in those celebrations together. Mother’s Day is still Mother’s Day, but you won’t get to bring fresh flowers to your mom at brunch. Your senior is still graduating – and you’re still so proud of her, even though you won’t get to cheer for her from the nosebleeds at graduation. Easter or Passover will still be observed as part of your spiritual tradition, but we won’t be gathered with our extended families for generations-shared past times. And, and, and… I’m just as bummed as everyone else. Right now, personal and meaningful heirlooms seem like great gifts to raise someone’s spirits. We could all use a boost!

    I remember when we were planning our wedding and I was really stressed about some drama that came up due to our “adults only reception” policy. I had a good cry about it – and a glass of wine, too. Even though you’re getting ready to have an amazing day, the logistics to make that happen are complicated! In hindsight, this feels so minor. Planning a wedding is always stressful, but in the midst of a global pandemic?! It’s… a lot. Your vendors feel your pain. If you’ve had to reschedule, our hearts ache alongside yours – but we’re already getting ready to help you celebrate down the road!   • Wedding Invitation Wording Etiquette

    Many years ago, my grandma gave me her copy of “Emily Post’s Etiquette,” from the 1950s, as a gift. She had inscribed the front cover with her maiden name, since she had clearly gotten the book as she worked through her own wedding invitation wording etiquette, and is the queen of manners and all things proper.

    The well-loved volume showed signs of wear and tear. I read it cover to cover, fully engrossed in it. It’s one of my most prized possessions and it sits on the top shelf of a bookcase at home, in a rightful place of honor. My friends know me as a sort of Miss Manners, or maybe the Grammar Police. Depends on the day. Nerd alert, but here we are.

  • Jennifer and Brad – Imagining their wedding invitations for every season

    Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt’s Malibu wedding in 2000 (Y2K y’all) was THE event of the new millennium, fitting of course for THE couple. Those were simpler times. Since these two made scrunchie-rocking hearts flutter everywhere, I’m sure I wasn’t the only grown-up 90s kid who freaked out with excitement about even-totally-far-flung dating rumors. In that spirit, I’ve reimagined their wedding invitations for every season – each version reflecting a different vibe for the big day.
